Follow the Android Platform Leader - An Evening with Samsung

Samsung is coming to town and they are bringing treats for developers to take a look at before launch.  If you currently or want to develop for the Android platform including leveraging some of the amazing, exclusive features of Samsung's devices, than this meetup is for you.

Find out how you can leverage the marketshare of one of worlds most popular series of mobile, tablet and other consumer electronics.  Build an app that includes, as an option, additional functionality, specific to the hardware and enhanced ecosystem of Samsung devices.

Join us with our , soon to be big brother, MoDEV for an exciting evening with Samsung.

MoDev is partnering with Samsung to bring you a great night at iStrategyLabs new HQ in Dupont Circle. The program will feature demos on the latest devices and offer a sneak peak into the most recent SDKs and APIs available through Samsung Developers.

6pm - pizza and drinks

7pm - presentations

8:30pm - hang out

9pm - local bar

If you're doing something cool on Samsung devices by all means submit a talk.

Thanks to the team at iStrategy Labs for hosting and the team at Samsung Developers for coming out from the west coast to spend some quality time with the MoDev community. This is going to be a great night all around.

My 2 Cents:

Stand out from the crowd.

Samsung has become the industry leader for consumer electronics, today.  There Galaxy line of devices has even surpassed the Apple's iOS devices in many significant ways.  What made this possible was advances in hardware, great engineering, design and Google's amazing, ever evolving Android platform.

So, why has Samsung propelled forward, beating the competing Android manufacturers. Well, Android is an open operating system that can easily be modified by anyone.   This createsfragmentation in the marketplace, with many devices offering many different "versions" or forks of the Android OS.  Quality andperformance varies from device to device, including the addition of what people now coin "Crapware" by manufacturers and mobile wireless service carriers.

What makes a great platform?  As industry leaders like Apple have proven, it is the marriage of compelling hardware, with the OS, and quality control of the apps a consumer can install.  Samsung has done at least two, vetting apps is something that Google's Play Store needs to work on.

How did Samsung accomplish this?   Very simple, build excellent hardware, ensure extreme quality control over over an enhanced version of Android OS, and integrate compelling, custom features to leverage both the OS  and hardware.

What makes Samsung even more special, unlike other mobile device manufacturers is they have opened their implementation of the hardware and Android OS up for 3rd party development via a sophisticated series of SDKs and APIs.

Not only can developers build on top of an already great platform, but they now have access to an entire ecosystem of consumer electronics that Samsung has integrated into their suite of custom software.

Top notch program from MoDev and DCMACPDA, as always. If Apple has a Developer Program, Samsung might as well do it.
