Main Meeting: Introduction to the Symfony2 Ecosystem

BONUS: We will be giving away an orange ElePHPant at this meeting. If you missed the kickstarter, now's your chance to get one of these limited edition plushies.

Topic:

Symfony2 is a powerful and very flexible web application framework. It is built as a set of components that can also be used independently.

The presentation will introduce the concepts of the Symfony2 framework and show how to work with it. We will also see related technologies like Twig, the default templating layer for Symfony.

If you use Drupal, this talk could also be of interest to you: Drupal 8 uses some of the Symfony components for its foundations and Twig will become the default templating language.

Speaker:

David Buchmann started working with Symfony2 when 2.0 was not yet released. He is co-leader of the Symfony2 Content Management Framework (CMF) project. He works for Liip, a web agency in Switzerland.

Afterwards, if you're interested, a few of us generally head to The Bier Baron's back room to continue the conversation over drinks and food.

Thanks for the feedback! I just uploaded the slides at http://davidbu.ch/2014-08-27-sy... - I added some bits from the questions and there is the section on Doctrine ORM too.

If you have Symfony2 questions, comments or inputs how i could improve the talk, feel free to send me emails.

Pretty good. I knew nothing specific about Symfony and it was a good intro.

Symfony2 has been my framework of choice for the last couple of years. My preferred stack: nginx, php-fpm and symfony2.

Hi David, good choice :-) Its great when Symfony Pros come to the talk and i look forward to discuss advanced topics after the talk. But be aware that the talk is really an introduction. Can of course be a good refresher for basic concepts or components you work less with.
