I have also enjoyed the sewer (am I a connosewer?) but Piratz has a great happy hour and it's a great place for us to recruit.

I thought Piratz was awesome. Of course, I had multiple drinks, so pretty much anywhere outside of a sewer would be awesome to me.

But I'm also not adverse to going back there for their SP night!

Likewise, great to meet everyone - bu next time *definitely* not staying out so late, I'm too old for that. ;) Looking forward to sewing and crafty next time!

I called Piratz Tavern at 4 PM "New folks just arrived & UR group's gonna be here a while! After I found a parking spot in the alley behind the bar it was almost 5 PM, not to bad coming from 10 miles South of Westminster! The pirate/server lead me to the patio & pointed out the table. but it was totally packed with over a dozen souls so I sat at an empty 2-top across from the group & broke out some "Treasures" I gleaned from prepping obsolete computers for recycling. If you want to socially & ethically recycle old electronics of many types contact Eric Zimmerman who runs a 501(C)3 Autism awareness group, "The Buddy Project" http://www.thebuddyproject. net/about. html & also Old Farm Computer Repair & Hospital, the 1ST paragraph a local newspaper feature about them http://www.fredericknewspost.com/sections/business /display_comments.htm?StoryID=131297 ) or directly at oldfarmcomputers.com Everybody made me welcome & I joined in like an old friend talking with most everyone!

Great people, loads of progress on getting an identity for the group.

Thanks everyone for showing up! I had a blast. It's been a long time since I closed a bar like that. I'll start a new thread for what we decided for the group.

It was great to meet everyone and find out what others' interests are!

Just to let folks know, Ian and I are running late - hoping to be there around 3pmish. Look forward to meeting folks!

    Well, then come dabble.

    June 15, 2012

  • Dave

I'm interested in joining in, but have to confess that whole I've been aware of steampunk for ages, I've never actually dabbled.

I want to go to Piratz early so that our meetup is our meetup, separate from anything else. I also try to time meetup (based on another one I'm in) so that it doesn't conflict with whatever else people have on their Saturday schedule. So by all means, come early & stay late! Or make our meeting & skip theirs (that's what I'll be doing). Or, if you must, skip our meeting early & go to their event in the evening. Or go to meetup at 2, take a break, and return for theirs. It's all good.

Why is the time unchanged, when the event at the tavern doesn't start until 9:30 PM? Just curious.

    June 11, 2012

  • Ken

We've moved Meetup to Piratz Tavern in Silver Spring, as they are having a SP thing that day. Time is unchanged. See everyone there and hope to see the new people too!

Piratz is fine. If Busboys and Poets which one?:-)

    June 9, 2012

  • Ken

If Piratz wants to accommodate us, let's encourage them. It does mean we should dress up, of course! If I hear no objection in a day or two, we'll switch venue to Piratz.

  • Jenn

Im fine for anywhere in the DC area - just keep us posted.

    June 7, 2012

  • Ken

Hey! I just saw that Piratz Tavern is having an SP thing on this same day. Shall we move the meetup there?

    June 7, 2012

  • Ken

I'm game for Busboys and Poets, but let's see what other people say.

I know this probably isn't the best place for this, but I thought y'all would like to know about two things going on this weekend: the 29th Annual Exposition of 20th Century Decorative Arts (http://www.adsw.org/event/2012/Expo/index.html) -- Dieselpunk, Decopunk.

Also, the 100th Anniversary exhibit of the Titanic at National Geographic is free this weekend.

Northside Social in Clarendon? Busboys & Poets in Shirlington?

    June 1, 2012

  • Ken

Very Good! First, welcome all new folks! May I suggest a meetup on the 16th to meet and greet? We'll go for the tried and true Crystal City Sports Bar until someone has a better idea.

Can I request that it NOT be June 2 & 3 as that's the Art Deco Society of Washington's annual Expo...?
