Describe your backpacking experience and background, please include longest mileage in a day (with pack) and coldest nights out.

Hiked 18,000 miles on the Appalachian Trail. PCT 98', Long Trail 99'. Longest day was a 45 miler on the AT. Coldest night, well, my AT thru hikes were from September to May, so I hiked thru 6 full winters, and most of a 7th. It was cold.

Describe your most recent outdoor adventure. When was it? How did you set it up? Did the weather cooperate? How did it go?

Just got back yesterday from hiking the North District of SNP on the AT. Can't believe it was 30 degrees up there friday night, it's almost June!

The Big Three: what specific gear (not just brands) do you use for your three-season shelter system, sleep system, and backpack? (It's okay if it isn't ultralight!)

Black Diamond Mega-lite tarp or a VAUDE Power Tokee UL tent. My pack is a ULA Catalyst. Winter:Gregory Baltoro 65. Bag: Western Mountaineering Mega-lite, and WM Kodiak in winter.

Help us understand your reason for joining DC UL Backpacking, including your goals for lightening your load and quickening your backpacking pace.

I joined mainly to hike. I think my pack base weight is "okay". Improving my pace would be great.

How did you learn about our group? (I'm trying to improve our visibility, so I'm curious.)

Searched within the site itself and found you.

My name is Chris. I've hiked the entire 2,185 mile Appalachian Trail 7 times. Crazy I know. These days I enjoy hiking sections, and weekends. Though I can't rule out another thru hike, someday...
