Living the move from Guerrilla bands to Consistent CD - Jeff & Stephen (Neustar)

Agenda:

7:00 pm : Meet, greet, & eat

7:30 pm : Presentation

Talk Description:

"Living the move from Guerrilla bands to Consistent Continuous Deployment"

In late 2013 the Neustar Software Development organization embarked on a transition from a traditional Development, QA and Operations style to an integrated model.  This presentation will describe the context with which this transition is occurring, the challenges, the approaches being taken, and where we currently find ourselves.  In particular, the talk will address the cultural, process, and organizational  issues  we are facing and how we are attempting to address them.  The transition is ongoing, so we’ll also make make sure to address next steps in our journey.  Many of our teams (the Guerrilla bands) have existing processes and personnel that have been in place for upwards of a decade which has presented its own unique challenges to implementing any cultural change.

Was ok, but not much detail provided about corporate challenges, how they were overcome, specific examples of issues. Some information was there but was very high level.

Stephan did an excellent job presenting the evolution his company is encountering while on the road to Continuous Delivery. I particularly liked that he focused on the fact that it was both a bottom-up and top-down supported move in this direction. Also relevant was discussion around alleviating technical debt and how that should be a mandatory part of any teams evolution towards CD. Stephan did an excellent job with a great demo by Jeff at the end.
