AT Section STRENUOUS LONG DISTANCE DAY HIKE # 3 Ashby Gap-Compton Gap 26 mile

Third of the several training hikes forward the "Extreme Day Hikes series" coming soon in a couple months like in May-the famous Devil's Path in NY. 7 peaks over 3.600 feet, 28 mile and[masked] elevation gain, in June-Great Range Traverse NY. 7 peaks over 3.600 feet, 25 mile and[masked]' elevation gain, July-Presidential Traverse in NH. 7 peaks, 26 mile[masked]' elevation gain and September. the infamous Pemmy Loop 31 mile 9 peaks over[masked]' elevation gain.
Some of the training hikes to be post-it will be 1 way not a loop if is in the Apalachian Trail area the distance will be increase between 3-5 mile each time.
In between AT hikes training hikes there will be more hikes in different areas that are a loop but still all of them over the 20 up to 30 miles distance.

ULTRA STRENUOUS DAY HIKE suitable ONLY for long distance experience trekkers. This is the third hike of a long distance training hike series.

One way long distance DAY HIKE, this one hike is considered strenuous but not extreme and is not suitable for novices due to length of the same.
Please consider your physical condition if attending this activity and remember to pack water, trail snacks, HEADLAMP and bring along whit you a great attitude.

Hiking sticks are helpful but not required.
Day backpack: Whit 2 liter blader minimun.
Water filter: To be use when need to re-feel water from stream
Raln suite: Just in case, preference to be 2 pieces.
Noise devise: Safety Whistle
Clothing essential: Wind on the ridge will it make cold at sometimes, wear in layers is a must + wool cap/gloves.

ABOUT WEATHER: We are an explorer/adventure group but due to weather environment, this event will get canceled if "heavy" rain is forecasted.

WHEN: Saturday, March 11 - We will meet first at Vienna metro at 5:00 am and will leave promptly at 5:15 am. Hike start at 7 am. 
COST: $18 Skyline Dr. access fee. Budget about $10.00 for gas share if carpooling + any $$$ for after party breakfast/dinner.
CARPOOL: Riders should leave from the DC area and expect to drive 1:30 hour to the location.
Don't forget if you want a ride or are willing to offer a ride – be a friend to the environment, save money, and make friends by just posting a message!!

Need a ride: Post that you need a ride and contact any offers via e-mail for those that are offering rides.

REMEMBER metro doesn't run early in the morning so plane ahead.
