This is a free language study group. It address the fact that there are almost no Icelandic language classes in the DC area. Meetings are weekly and pretty informal, sometimes fluent Icelandic speakers attend. We practice Icelandic reading, grammar, pronunciation and translation.
If you'd like to join, join meetup.com, then join this group. There is a link to join on most pages.
If you're interested in some Icelandic and Scandinavian events that don't involve learning a foreign language, check out the Icelandic and Scandinavian Book Club, which meets every five weeks and reads Icelandic (and Scandinavian) fiction in translation.
- Provide a place where people can study Icelandic in groups.
- Provide some events where one can either actively use Icelandic in conversation, or get some passive exposure to Icelandic, like Icelandic movies.
If you are a complete beginner, you'll want to want to review the alphabet before you attend-- there are only a few new letters. Beginner's events are posted when we have people interested in attending.
If you're brave or intermediate, most every week we have a day where we translate new articles, stories and other texts, sometimes texts that members bring in.
About once every two months or so we hold a potluck, movie showing or party at one of the member's homes.
Resources. A really long link list of valuable resources for learners of Icelandic.
