Violence; A Social Norm?

Hello Everyone,

One of the four functions of myth is to promote a stable societal environment. Given the recent tragedy in Colorado, some may question in what kind of "society" are we really living in. The cohesive bond that myths are supposed to provide doesn't seem to be there.

Let's discuss the potential causes and possible courses of action that could be implemented to keep events like this from happening.

An excerpt from Mary Schmich's 1997 column ("wear sunscreen"): Don't worry about the future. Or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubble gum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind, the kind that blindside you at 4 p.m. on some idle Tuesday. See: http://tinyurl.com/ljxnu5

With the ability to personally isolate or perhaps insulate ourselves from each other in through the use of electronic media and communications we lose cognizance of a human relations aspects of our lives. So then how are myths conceived and expressed in our course of life
