Negotiating Empire -- and dinner
Details
Dinner and historical presentation at DU.
Negotiating Empire: Victors and Vanqished, Heroes and Villians as Chronicled in Early Spanish Verse.
Presented by DU professor Ralpf DiFranco
Summary: While Spanish writers were extolling the glorious age of a universal monarchy, in the Netherlands, which boasted a tradition of demographic ideals, challenges were being mounted to Spanish imperial authority. And at home, returning veterans were voicing their disenchantment with the glories of war. Learn the story tonight.
After the discussion we will have dinner around 5:30PM at Illegal Pete's -- just two blocks away -- great burritos! Then we can discuss it all.
The DU presentation is at 2000 East Asbury in Sturm Hall on the second floor, room 286. Dinner is at Pete's, just down the street.
The presentation at DU is free, but you must call 303-871-2425 to reserve a seat. And, of course, dinner at the restaurant is not free.
