Irving PAL (Police Athletic/Activities League) is hosting a four-day rape aggression defense class for women, ages 13 years and older.

"The Rape Aggression Defense System (RADS) is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques. The comprehensive, women-only course begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, while progressing to the basics of hands-on defense training."

The class will be held in 4 sessions spread out into 4 nights:

  • Monday and Tuesday, 4/8 & 4/9: 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM
  • Thursday and Friday, 4/11 & 4/12: 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM

Taught by Irving police officers who were specially trained and certified to teach this system

"Each participant must provide a $20 donation for kids’ programs, sign three waivers, and attend all four sessions."

$0 (besides the $20 donation to a kids' program mention above).

After completing this 4-day class, you will be allowed for come back and practice or take refresher courses for free with one condition: YOU MUST COMPLETE ALL 4 DAYS OF THE FIRST TRAINING CLASS.

Please visit: http://irvingpal.org/COMMUNITY_TRAINING.html to print your waivers and  bring them with you on the 1st day of class.

You DO NOT have to hand deliver or mail your waivers before hand. Simply bring them to class on the first day along with your payment.

A sample video, additional information and point of contact may also be found at this website.

from April Contoper, a finding-member who attended the class on August 13, 2012:

"I just completed it today, and it far exceeded my expectations. There really aren't words to describe the impression it left on me. I can only say I think EVERY woman should attend. It could save your life one day & you'll leave feeling empowered & prepared. This is very hands on, but you don't have to do anything you're not comfortable with. On the last day, you'll play out realistic scenarios. You'll put all those skills you just learned to work."

You can register and attend this class on your own. I am posting this class for your benefit only but won't be attending since I have already taken this wonderful class last year.

This defense class is what I needed and believe every woman needs to take. We can never be to careful or know to much. What you learn here you will take with you and will remember it when needed and you begin to see things you can change in areas of your life concerning safety, things you may not have thought of before.

Everyone, sorry about all the confusion about the update announcement. This posting was created by copying/pasting of a previous post in September 2012. I think that may be why you received its announcement as "an update" when it should announce this meetup as a new event. This "update" announcement is probably a Meetup's technical glitch or a design flaw.

The date posted here IS the date the class is being held (4/8 through 4/12). I don't know when the next class is available but I will post it as it comes next time. Let's hope they don't run out of budget $ soon. And let's hope those who missed this time will catch it next time. Cheers!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
