For this day in May, Grant Ingersoll (https://www.linkedin.com/in/grantingersoll), a committer on Apache Lucene, Solr (http://lucene.apache.org/solr/), and Mahout (http://mahout.apache.org/) (perhaps you have heard of them), the author of one of my favorite books, Taming Text (https://www.manning.com/books/taming-text), and Founder/CTO/SVP of Lucidworks (https://lucidworks.com/) is going to come and talk with us.

Title: Data Science with Solr and SparkAbstract: The modern day search engine has significantly evolved from its keyword matching days to its current form which leverages a wide variety of data inputs and user feedback loops to help users find out what’s most important in their data. At Lucidworks, we leverage Apache Spark and Solr and a good dose of data engineering to build smarter, richer search and data applications. The combination of these two key technologies plus some supporting libraries create a powerful combination for data scientists and engineers to not only explore, but enhance and understand data. In this session, we'll cover the basics of each technology and showcase the power of the two together.

Grant is the CTO and co-founder of Lucidworks, co-author of Taming Text, co-founder of Apache Mahout and a long-standing committer on the Apache Lucene and Solr open source projects. Grant’s experience includes engineering a variety of search, question answering, and natural language processing applications for a variety of domains and languages. He earned his B.S. from Amherst College in Math and Computer Science and his M.S. in Computer Science from Syracuse University
