Studio lighting can be mysterious and intimidating to new and experienced photographers alike. This introductory crash course will shed some light on the subject and give you the confidence to start working in the studio right away. I will provide you with an essential understanding of lighting sources, modifiers, metering, and practical applications for every-day projects. You will leave the studio armed with the knowledge you need to create consistent, predictable results you and your clients can count on.
We will shoot tethered to a laptop or projector for immediate feedback during demonstration. Using a live model and a tripod mounted camera will allow us to see exactly what changes in the image when moving a light source or switching modifiers. You’ll be amazed at how easy it is to learn this way!
This workshop is a 3 hour class taken on one day.
This class serves as a foundation for all our lighting workshops. Topics covered will include:
– hot lights vs strobes
– mono lights vs speed lights
– metering in the studio
– white balance in the studio
– basic portrait set up
– essential modifiers (softbox, umbrella, reflector, etc.)
– key light, fill light, hair light
You will have time to get some practical experience adjusting the lights and changing modifiers as well as images of the model to use in your portfolio.
*** You must have a camera with manual controls (be able to set ISO, shutter speed and f-stop) and a hot shoe in order to fully participate in this workshop.
