As a Sr. Product Owner, your overarching responsibility is to represent the voice of the customer during the development process. You are accountable for ensuring that the product being built delivers value to the customers; that what is developed meets or exceeds our customer's requirements, and consequently, that our products are successful in the marketplace. Within our Business Line teams, the Product Manager is focused on knowing the market, the competition and working with customers to set the right strategy and roadmap.
The Product Owner is focused on working with R&D to translate those requirements into real deliverables. Both roles need to have a shared vision, be close to the customers and contribute to the decisions on what needs to be prioritized for development.
Working as the Product Owner implies taking on or sharing many product management responsibilities including understanding the market, describing product functionality, and ensuring readiness for the product launch. The following table defines the responsibilities of the Product Owner and contrasts it with the Product Manager
The Product Owner position is responsible for the day to day management of the product (development) backlog. The product owner needs to be fully engaged in the agile process, implementation of scrum teams, etc. The product owner will be required to be or to become a Certified Scrum Product Owner as part of his or her employment. The agile product owner must understand the market, the customer and the business in order to make sound decisions. Communication is a large part of the product owner responsibilities. The product owner role requires working closely with key stakeholders throughout the organization and beyond, so he or she must be able to communicate different messages to different people about the project at any given time.

Business travel of approximately 10-20% yearly is expected for this position.
Bachelor's or Masters in Computer Science, Engineering or Business
Role typically requires 5 or more years of related experience in a high technology business function, with 2 or more years in a product ownership role. Will typically have worked in technical support, system administration or product development type roles with exposure to marketing. This leader must possess demonstrated expertise in the areas of Mainframe Software product development in an agile environment.
