Opening Reception--Modern Painting & Photography

Details
The exhibition features three kinds of art by Hongchen Zhao: Ink and Watercolor to the Power of N, Water Photography and Minimum Painting. These terms might sound novel, but you will find out all about them at the show.
“The word photograph comes from Greek, meaning a drawing with light. For the works in my series Ink Painting Photography, I painted ink on rice paper, crumpled the paper before the ink dried, and then photographed it. Sometimes I photographed from inside a paper cave. The complexity of colors comes from different drying times of the ink, and from using direct and indirect sunlight during different parts of the day.In this way, I seek to evoke the circadian rhythms of nature, of the clouds and of the sky.
Ink Painting Photography made me realize that while photography can be about simply reproducing a visual truth, I like to make people wonder what is beyond the truth.”——Hongchen Zhao
