Look for our next Inbetweener Meeting: Nov 26

Inbetweener meetings are a great way to read more frequently, showcase revised pieces reviewed previously, and share stories with a much smaller group.

Don't forget:

North Carolina Writers Network Fall Conference: Nov. 21-23 in Charlotte.  Special rate for Saturday-only session, Nov. 22. Check out the NCWN website for details.

Hello there. I ran into a handful of this groups members last week - each of them very kind people - and, introducing myself as a fellow writer, they informed me about this group's meetings and invited me to attend.

So I plan on taking up that offer and checking this writer's group out this Wednesday. I just wanted to give a quick introduction (my name is Alex, by the way) and a heads-up that a new face will be there; I also happen to be new to North Carolina as well.

I'll be looking forward to seeing what a writer's group is like.

Yeah... I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I totally waited in the wrong part of the store and missed my opportunity to enter. I got so caught up reading the preface in a lot of books I want to get while I waited that it was 8:00 pm by time I went looking outside the cafe. The group seemed focused, so I didn't want to interrupt and go through the whole intro phase that should have occurred at the beginning. I'll be sure to he in the right place next month, haha.

Sorry I didn't make it last night, after racquetball I was tired and went home for relaxation and writing.

Such a great group last night and really interesting pieces. Very thoughtful feedback. I so enjoy learning with this talented group of eclectic and supportive writers. I'm looking forward to learning about building a social platform and blogging...see those of you who can make it at the blogging meetup!

I'm going to have to miss this meet up due to back problems I am dealing with. I look forward to returning to the meetings once I've healed up.

Hello everyone! I have, unfortunately, missed the last two meetings due to travel, but will be hosting the inbetweener on Nov. 5th as Jonathan will be traveling. I want to get a feel for who is planning to attend. Not sure if the 19 listed here are signing up for the regular monthly meeting on the 12th. Love to have all of you there. Let me know also if you have a piece in progress or a recent revision you would like to read as we may have spots available.

Group discussion following readings re: the submission process. Who do you submit to? How do you write a query? Finding agents? Do you need an agent, etc., etc.

Obviously we may need multiple meetings to cover these subjects. However, it is important to understand that writing the piece is only half the battle...and sometimes the easier half! Let's chat about it, shall we?

    See you all there!

I'm working on the "I Remember" story, incorporating your valuable suggestions. Will happily bring what I've done to the inbetweener on November 5th.

Don't forget our Inbetweener session on Wed., Oct. 22. Looks like it will be a good one with Persia, Susan and Paulette reading from previously critiqued stories. Do join us! As always, we'll be at Barnes and Noble at the normal time 7 PM to 9 PM.

Thanks, Paulette. Your revisions were great. Stay with it as your story is a good one. Remember, don't over-write and do cut unnecessary paragraphs. Trust the reader. Continue to focus on building conflict, emotion, and adding tension to your story. Love to see your changes.

Hey! We've scheduled a new Inbetweener session for Wed., Nov. 5 from 7-9 PM at the Barnes and Noble. Join us and share your updates on pieces read previously, and, of course, we'll critique new stories and engage in an ever-evolving discussion on the act and art of writing. As always, if you have a work-in-progress on which you would like feedback, a new essay or story you want reviewed by a good group of friends, or a link to share between us, please let me know. See you on Nov. 5 or, if not, at our regular monthly gathering, Wed., Nov 12.

Sounds good, Susan. Thanks to all of you for your great suggestions on getting me "unstuck". I think it worked!

Persia, I hope you read this piece so we can see how you resolved your problem. Very curious....

  • Susan E.

I'd love to bring a revision/continuation of the piece I brought to the previous inbetweener to this upcoming inbetweener.

    October 9

    • Jonathan G.

Susan, that would be wonderful! Look forward to seeing what you've done.
