Re: [Durham-Writers-Group] How did 'they' get Published?

Hi Kim,
Yes it was a great meeting, sorry you missed it.
As to recommending a sub-group, nothing is an exact fit.  I would suggest stopping by the ‘main’ group & seeing how that feels. If you find the group agreeable (and attendees do vary) & the format to your liking, there is no problem with bringing your work in to get opinions.  You’d have to tell us what advice you’d be looking for … Personally I would be interested in exterior Italian design. If you would be looking for expert feedback, well, you might meet someone knowledgeable but I wouldn’t count on it.  If is a book for general consumption, the main meeting next month might work out.
Stop by & see how it feels.  Meanwhile, you’ll get involved in giving some other people guidance … Meanwhile there are some people who know a little about getting published as well. As you have probably noticed there are some subgroups aimed at e-publishing, perhaps…?
Write back, after next week I’ll probably have some time on my hands, if you have any other questions that I can’t answer.
Thanks,
Mickey

Hi Mickey,

That sounds exciting! Sorry to hear about your back too.

I signed up awhile ago and have yet to attend a meet up.  I'm not sure where I fit. I'm writing a non fiction book about exterior Italian decor.
Do you have any suggestions as to which sub group of this meetup would be best? I would really like to get in the grove with others working on a passion.

Best,

Hi All,

First - A great meeting last night, two of our participants just had their novels published!  How did they do it?  With hard work, clean living and all that but also w/a little help from their friends.

So on that note ... here's some blog/website/email info to help us support each other.

Cut and paste the addresses and visit the websites, log on the blogs, leave comments, add your email to 'follow' where you can.  All these things are criteria that agents & publishers look at when making decisions. Also, go online and review our new authors.  The more reviews, the more sales on the internet, this regardless of the nature of the reviews.

Let me start with Jon Baston, his novel "Adventures of a Space Bum" is available at selected retail outlets as well as online. Jon is also an expert in self-publishing and will be offering tips and advice his Sci-Fi novel at: Storytellers Bookstore in Wake Forest on April 11 @ 7pm and will have free series on self-publishing at the Durham Library 4/7, 5/4, 5/11 from 10-2 (and it is free!). Contact Jon at his website www.therealjonbatson.com

Eryk Pruitt (The Reverend) his novel "Dirtbags" is currently kicking it on Kindle and will soon be available at selected retail outlets. Eryk is having a book party at a Durham tavern "106 Main" on 4/17 starting at 6:30 ... the name and the address are the same. Special prices on well drinks when you tell 'em you're with Eryk.

Thanks to everyone for the support they've offered me as I get ready for my back surgery.  Wish me luck!

Will see everyone in a couple of months.

Support your local artists!
