The Dallas Android Developers Group is hosting a coding competition in place of our regular meeting on June 13. Entrants should plan to arrive at the third floor in the Valtech building by 6:00. We are starting an hour earlier than our usual meeting time to allow 3 hours for coding. Details of the competition will be released at 6:00 and coding will stop at 9:00 for judging. (If you can't make it by 6:00, come anyway. Late starters will be allowed.)

This is a competition for developing native Android apps (written in Java or C++). No entries using jQuery Mobile, PhoneGap/Cordova, etc. will be accepted. Apps must be built into an APK by 9:00 sharp. This is an individual competition (no teams). Searching the Internet for answers and using code snippets for existing code is acceptable (within reason).

The Entrants will designate their level of proficiency based of the following guidelines:

Novice: has played with Android before, but hasn’t released any apps to any app store. Intermediate: some experience with Android, programmer by day, has released an app or two. Advanced: lots of exposure to Android, Android developer as full-time job, has released multiple app There will be 3 - 4 judges who will make the rounds after 9:00 and view each app as it is presented on the contestant’s phone or emulator. Contestants will need to show what achievements have been completed.

To be strongly considered for a top prize, a contestant must complete at least the basic achievement for his or her level, with the basic achievements being cumulative, i.e. intermediate contestants should complete the novice and intermediate basic achievements.

This is not a teaching event. Entrants should have the Eclipse Android IDE or Android Studio installed on their laptop and must have completed the development cycle for at least one app.

We will be providing a $50 prize for the overal winner and tortilla casserole for food.
