DEV 401 and DEV 501 Study Group, session # 6

This week the 401 study group (11:00 to 12:00), will cover chapter 9 of the SFDC Platform Fundamentals pdf (available in the files section of meetup.com - Dallas Salesforce Developers Users Group - ). Workflow is a Force.com platform business-logic engine that allows us to automatically send email alerts, assign tasks, or update field values based on rules that we define. Any time that changes to a record meet the conditions in a workflow rule, the platform automatically performs any actions associated with the rule.. If you would like to be the presenter for this chapter, please reach out to me before Friday ( June 14). If not, I will present this chapter (Moyez).  Come armed with prep test question (again, available in the files section...).  We will spend some serious time going over exam prep questions.  Entering the home stretch....

Dugee Sunita Manne will lead session number 6 of the 501 study group (12:30 to 1:30) and will cover the remainder of chapter 5 of the Apex Programmers Guide (also available in the files section of meetup.com), Testing Apex. If possible, please read the chapter and run through the exercises on your own, and come armed with your questions.

Additional notes: If you are studying for either the 401 or 501, you are welcome to the other section as well. No tests, just great support and camaraderie.

Great suggestion Douglas. Sometimes the "test banks" on the web can have inaccurate, out of date or incomplete information. When I was teaching Microsoft Certifications, I would ask each member of the class to prepare 20-30 questions and pick a representative sample as the end of semester exam.
This serves two purposes, 1. It highlights where more study is necessary. 2. It focuses the mind to have to sit down and actually spend the time to review the topic and prepare a quality question about it.

If everyone is willing to prepare two or three questions for next time and send them to the group ahead of time I think that would make for a very productive session.

Where I think this would be the most helpful is with the 501 exam. I've posted several sample 401 exams to the downloads area, plus there's the site we visited during our last session that's available to help with preparing for the 401 exam, but I've not seen similar resources for the 501 exam. I'd still really like to see Joe continue with his class presentation though before we move into sample exams since classes are such a critical part of 501 development.

I like the idea of going through test questions rather than have someone go over the the chapters in the study guide. I have prepared some questions for the next meeting as I am going through the guide.

Sorry for being so slow to comment. Once again, we had a great session. Thanks for your super presentation on controllers Joe! Good Q&A. Liked the site you found Moyez. :) Lots of good ideas exchanged for taking the 401 Exam. Have been so busy, I haven't had the spare time to go and take mine. :(

Moyez, Great session today. What are your thoughts about putting together a sample exam maybe 20 to 25 questions for the group to take independently in the first 30 mins next month? We could review the sample exam the second 30 mins. Sounds like everyone is close to taking the test. I think it would be more productive than reviewing 7 or 8 questions.
