    Cual es la diferencia entre latino e hispano?

      That's interesting. Obviously Brazilians wouldn't qualify as Hispanic but would as Latino. But people from other South American countries would qualify as neither (Guyana, Suriname). Since there is such a small Brazilian population in the US, and probably even smaller from Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, the terms are used mostly for people from Spanish speaking cultures. I heard someone in an airport security line say that Hispanics were from Central America, and Latinos from South America. I think that is obviously incorrect. I believe that there is a regional influence where Hispanic is the preferred term on the East Coast and Latino is the preferred term west of the Mississippi. As for me, having a Colombian mother and being from NYC, I would usually refer to myself as Hispanic.
