With Bold Danes... near Mt Baldy

Weather permitting, let's head back to Sunset Peak, a popular summit south of Mt Baldy. This is an easy-to-moderate ~7 mi hike with about 1,300f elevation gain to reach the summit. But as we did last time, we will only go as far as we want to, to enjoy the scenery and let our pups play.

The trail primarily ascends a north-facing slope, and with a lot of shade, it can be doable even on warm days, especially with an early start.

A National Forest Service ADVENTURE PASS ($5 per day or $30 for the year) is required for parking. Click HERE to purchase, or get it at a sports goods store. I highly recommend getting it in advance.

So sorry we missed everyone on Sunday. Were able to leave my brother's place in Azusa only in the afternoon. Enjoyed the hike!

Also, this time around, I personally won't be heading all the way to the top (almost!:) - will do just a portion of this hike....

Would like to go (spending this weekend in Azusa), but can make it there at 10 the earliest. Hope to catch up with you on a trail, if not lost...

Hi Fred, it's unlikely we'll be hitting the trail at 9am sharp, and we for sure will be moving at a rather slow speed, so catching up with us is a real possibility, even with a late start. It's a wide fire road all the way (except for a few hundred yards to the top), so getting lost is almost impossible :) Looking forward to meeting you!

Troy, if you're talking about 1 mile trail, I don't really know where it is except it's somewhere near sledding area. The address Alla and Tyler provided is not for that hike, but for Bear Canyon trail head. I looked it up and it's listed as the one of the most strenuous in the area, with only first 1,7 miles suitable for hiking with dogs, and with some steep, narrow and slippery sections - I just don't know where those sections are. It's worth checking it out, though.
As for the 1 mile hike - I will try to find it when we are there on Feb 17 - to get directions and most importantly - to see if it would be OK to take there more than one (half a dozen??) of our over-sized pups: if we want to do it OFF-LEASH, it does matter.....

We would be very interested in this hike. Sundays work best because i work saturday nights, but with enough notice i might be able to take it off.

This does sound fun! What kind of attire do the Danes need for the snow? Saturday the 26th wouldnt work for us, but other saturdays and sundays are open.

I was thinking of the Mt. Baldy area as well and was trying to figure out where to go. Would love to join groups for this. A Saturday would be great!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
