When I taught evolution in two states, I was the only teacher who TAUGHT evolution.  The others just gave a vocabulary test on the chapter.

My 19 year old step sister is crashing at my house this week.  She grew up since age 5 living with my dad and her mom - everyone is strict mormons - in particular creationists (there are mormons out there that are more theistic evolution types that accept evolution...but god did it).

Anyway, something about it came up, and she was tonight quick to point out to me that while Darwin believed animals could adapt and evolve, he actually "never said that humans evolved from monkeys or anything".

I calmly corrected this tragic error, but the annoying fact is, that she was taught this talking point by someone.

It is bad enough that folks do not care about the evidence.....its even worse when people are willing to teach stuff that is such a bald faced lie to young minds.

Graduate high school....took AP biology....and asserts such a thing?  For all I know, her high school bio teacher only read origin of species and forgot to mention descent of man....
We need higher standards of science education....this is just sad...folks will even make shit up and lie to keep the young brainwashed if they feel it necessary.
