Analytics & Data Innovation : Stories from Trenches of Industry & Research

  • September 18, 2014 · 5:30 PM

Final Agenda Announced.

Hello All.

Hope every one had excellent summer! Welcome all who have joined in the last few weeks. We are all set for our next event at Level 39 Canary Wharf on Thursday, 18th September evening.

Having discussed various threads of Data Analytics Innovation and Entrepreneurship in last events, our focus this time is to hear stories on the ground from Industry practitioners and entrepreneurs.

On behalf of 1 Wisdom Street Limited, I would like to thank our event sponsoring partners Anomaly42 and Tableau Software, their Senior leaders and speakers for supporting the event and their time.

As I promised earlier, starting this event we have a slot for ‘Featured Startup’ included in the agenda.

Here is the detailed Agenda:

Analytics & Data Innovation: Stories from Trenches of Industry & Research

Thursday, 5:30 PM , 18th September, 2014, Level 39, Canary Wharf

Arrival and Networking, Drinks & Snacks: 5:30 PM

Introduction: 6:00 – 6:15 PM

Analytics & Business insight in the ongoing Big Data Confusion  – Sarvesh Kumar, CEO & Founder Singular Intelligence Limited, 1 Wisdom Street Limited

In the continuing ambiguity of fit between technology push and real business problems, what do stories from trenches indicate? Is there a common understanding emerging?

‘1 Wisdom Street’ is an innovation platform focused on Education, Entrepreneurship Development   and Open Innovation in Data and Analytics.

‘Singular Intelligence’ has a focus on deep analytics & Visualization based insight solutions for Consumer centric industries and Smart Cities leveraging their unique data in eco-system for competitive advantage and social value creation.

Keynote 1: 6:15 PM – 6:45 PM

Anomaly42: Money Laundering and Living KYC: Changing the Fundamentals of Banking

Laurence Shaw, Founding partner of Fusion AI Partners and CEO of Anomaly42, a company focused on turning big data into business relevant smart data.

Anomaly42 was incorporated in May 2013 to help businesses uncover the intelligence hidden within Big Data. We automate the process of collecting all the data connected to an individual company, market sector or specific client case.

We then extend the emerging data ecosystem with over 160 sets of verified data and other publicly available – generally unstructured - data. Using next-generation algorithms, we then break the data down into an atomic form and apply powerful visualisation tools to make connections that would otherwise remain unseen.

We effectively turn Big Data into business-relevant Smart Data.

We have already customised platform solutions for fraud prevention, civil and criminal investigations, derivatives contracts, and anti-money laundering / combating the financing of terrorism (AML CFT).

Our keynote presentation covers our breakthrough work with money laundering and our proprietary form of Living KYC (know your customer) - which we believe will fundamentally change banking, as we know it today.

 Keynote 2: 6:45 PM – 7:15 PM

Tableau Software: Democratising Data.

James Eiloart, VP EMEA and Joe Clarke, EMEA Sales Trainer

Tableau Software, a pioneer in data visualization has a mission to help people see and understand their data – not just techies and PhD statisticians but ordinary business people. It’s a simple mission, but by delivering against this Tableau Software has secured a top spot in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence and has become arguably the fastest growing BI vendor in history.

So what’s all the fuss about? Why are people getting so excited about Tableau?

Can it really help people of all skill levels get to their data wherever it might be, explore it in an intuitive and visual manner and share it with their peer and colleagues – all without writing a single line of code or script? It is really massively faster to generate insight using Tableau than any traditional BI tool? Is it true that with Tableau you can build cool, beautiful, informative and interactive data visualisations in a matter of minutes? Does Tableau really enable companies to unlock the extraordinary creative potential that lies within their employees?

And if it’s really such a hot company – are these guys hiring?!

James and Joe will endeavour to share some insight in to Tableau: the company; the product and the European business. (And by the way….yep – we’re hiring!)

Keynote 3 : 7:15 – 7:30

TheySay Analytics : Real time Sentiment Analytics

Jon Halestrap, VP Business Development

Following on from our appearance on BBC news we have now launched another Scottish Referendum site that can be accessed at:

http://indyref-yesno.theysay.io

This time we have taken a slightly different approach in that we have focused upon emotions.

Since its launch it has been really interesting to see how this has changed with almost every political announcement.

The emotional functionality has been available through our API for some months and will be released through our MoodRaker product in the next few weeks.

The original referendum site is still available at:

Excellent presentations that truly drilled down on the subject matter for this brief with appropriate vendors who gave good insight as to application. Helping to any BA developer or end user in avoiding the mistake of just extrapolating masses of Big Data (beit cloud or on premise server based) & then struggling to determine the integrity of the data and trying to do too much at once with likely failure and reducing any ROI benefit.

Pre-considerations/planning as to the to the problem or issue we want to address followed by evaluations solutions and then ensure that measurable outcomes are decided so as to gain maximum benefit. BA should be used contextually to what we want to do and achieve and monitored to ensure relative accuracy so that the ultimate visulisations can be trusted to use to drive business decisions. Thank you Sarvesh for organising plus Moderator and all the people who presented and sponsors for such an invaluable occasion.
