Professional Development Series: Deep Learning in Pratice with NVidia

Details

Deep learning - back by popular demand!

In this lecture Nvidia will be giving a special hands-on presentation on implementing deep learning architectures with their CUDA technology. You will also have a chance to win a Titan X Graphics card!

In this session you will learn about recent computational advances in GPU architectures that dramatically speed up training of deep architectures as well as their implementation through the DIGITS training software.

===== TALK OUTLINE =====

Machine Learning (ML) has become a pervasive technology, underlying many modern applications. Machine learning techniques are a powerful tool for sifting through large datasets. Recent advances in Deep Learning (DL) provide methods that can be used to automatically classify images and objects with human-level performance. With Deep Learning, big data is part of the solution, not the problem. DL is rapidly becoming a key tool at many of the top technology companies around the world.

The talk will introduce DL in the broader context of machine learning, and describe the factors driving the success of DL, and the key phases and considerations of developing and deploying DL systems on GPUs. We will review the popular open source toolkits and companies with relevant products. We will walk through an example of using DIGITS, NVIDIA’s easy-to-use software for training and deploying Deep Neural Networks, that is accessed using a web browser. There will be time for questions and references for many more training resources.

====== SPEAKER ======

Larry Brown is a Sr. Solution Architect with NVIDIA, where he helps customers design and deploy GPU accelerated workflows in high performance computing and data analytics. He has a Ph.D. from the Johns Hopkins University, and a graduate certificate in Software Engineering from the University of Colorado.

Larry has over 15 years of experience designing, implementing and supporting a variety of advanced software and hardware systems for defense and national security applications. He has designed electro-optical systems for head-mounted displays and training simulators, developed GIS applications for multi-touch displays, and developed GPU computer vision code for UGVs.

Currently Larry enjoys learning about data analytics and machine learning. Larry has spent much of his career working for technology start-up companies, but was most recently with Booz Allen Hamilton before joining NVIDIA.

====== NOTES ======

NVidia will be giving away a Titan X graphics card, so make sure you show up for a chance to win!
