Deep learning is all the rage in advanced analytics, but few people understand how it works and how it can scale out. This talk will explain why representational learning is an advance over traditional machine learning techniques. It will also demo a working deep-belief net with a tour through DL4J's API, showing how a DBN extracts features and classifies data.

Adam Gibson (https://www.linkedin.com/in/agibsonccc) is an entrepreneur and deep-learning architect based in San Francisco. Co-founder of Skymind,Adam created the first open-source, distributed deep-learning framework for the JVM: Deeplearning4j.org. The DL4J user community includes engineers from Intel, Salesforce, Samsung, Intuit, Chevron, Accenture, IBM's Watson research project, Panasonic and various Internet security and financial service companies. Adam serves as machine-learning instructor at Zipfian Academy, and his team assists Fortune 500 companies, hedge funds, PR firms and startup accelerators with their machine learning projects. He's has been a computer nerd since he was 13 and actively contributes to the open source community.
