Data as a Design Resource

We are very excited to host Jon Wettersten, Aaron Ferber, and Stina Jonsson from IDEO. They will talk about the human-centered design process and how it relates when data is used as a design resource.

Also, Brett Goldstein -- Commissioner and Chief Data Officer of Chicago -- will be joining us again with a special announcement.

Note that the meetup starts at 6:30pm tonight (some members have reported the time showing up as 7:30pm). If you're on the Twitter, we're using #dschi to talk about the meetup.

Seemed like a sales presentation. I've heard the story about the German woman and the pill bottle at least three times over the last 10 years. Not much about data and design.

Other places you can try for hosting large groups are Thoughtworks and Isobar/Roundarch. Both are downtown, and generally quite nice about hosting free meetups.

That they are hiring data scientists. Probably with a little leadership under their belt...

As always, the IDEO crew rocked my world. Will definitely look at "human centered design."

The talk was great, and the conversations I had before and after the talk were fantastic.

This was a fun evening out with interesting people. I learned a lot from the people I met at this venue.

    Excellent talk.

Venue is rather loud. I would prefer an office setting where we could hear the presentation clearly.

I had a great experience with Timothy O'Toole's near the downtown NU campus, but there is a pay for the room plus a required minimum guarantee of food purchase. The back bar fits 100 and seats 80. Total space+food minimum is probably less than $450 but not by that much. The owner seems nice and very flexible though. http://www.timothyotooles.com/c...

    Rob,
Trying to find a location where you can get 100+ people is limited. Nokia, Morningstar are two places. Orbitz can hold 60-70 where getting 80 in the cafeteria gets you in trouble.
If you move it to a bar like J Tap, you will get fewer people, but you also have to get enough people eating/drinking to pay for the room. We have the same problem w CHUG.

1871 charges $450 for that room. We looked at it for Chicago Big Data but the cost was prohibitive. I'd suggest ITA. They don't charge for meetups hosting free events.

You could probably move it to 1871 if there's not a conflict in the big room at the northwest corner.
