Deep Learning Optimization

Details

Deep Learning is now the performance leader across an increasing range of artificial intelligence problems, especially for perceptual tasks such as vision, text or speech applications. This talk will discuss some recent successes in Deep Learning, demonstrate the optimization process using DIGITS - a new open source package for deep learning from NVIDIA - and some demos of real-world applications of deep neural networks built using open-source deep learning tools.

Jon Barker is an Arlington, VA based Solution Architect with NVIDIA. Jon helps customers and partners to develop applications of GPU accelerated machine learning and data analytics to defense and national security problems. Currently Jon is particularly focused on applications of the rapidly developing field of Deep Learning. Prior to joining NVIDIA Jon spent almost a decade as a government research scientist within the UK Ministry of Defence and the US Department of Defense R&D communities. Whilst in government service Jon lead R&D projects in sensor data fusion, big data analytics and machine learning for multi-modal sensor data to support military situational awareness and aid decision making. Jon has a PhD and BSc in Pure Mathematics from the University of Southampton, UK.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

We are pleased to announce a Data Community DC special event: The State of Data Science Education.

With the rush to leverage data for insights, educators and companies are rapidly evolving, but they face a number of questions and challenges.

What skills should data scientists have?
How do companies evaluate talent?
Are data scientists creating value?
Is data science education meeting the needs of companies?
What's the future of data science education?

We've assembled a fantastic set of panelists from universities, vocational programs and companies to discuss these questions and many more.

In addition, we are excited to have DJ Patil, the Chief Data Scientist of the United States, provide the closing keynote.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 10th and tickets are limited.
