Escape From Hadoop: Spark One Liners for C* Ops

For this meetup, we are excited to be joined by Russell Spitzer, Software Engineer in Test at Datastax.

What You'll Learn At This Meetup:

Apache Cassandra and Spark when combined can give powerful OLTP and OLAP functionality for your data. We’ll walk through the basics of both of these platforms before diving into applications combining the two. Usually joins, changing a partition key, or importing data can be difficult in Cassandra, but we’ll see how do these and other operations in a set of simple Spark Shell one-liners!

About Russell Spitzer:

After grabbing his Ph.D in Bioinformatics Russell wanted to get more involved in the Big Data scene so he joined DataStax. As a software engineer in test he works day to day on the DataStax Enterprise integration between Cassandra, Hadoop, and Solr as well as occasionally patching Cassandra itself

Glad everyone enjoyed it! I'll try to do a slightly more advanced version next time for those interested in more complicated ops.

Great presentation Russell. I also liked the venue and the organized approach to everything...
Would not have minded if there had been even more scala/spark examples or use cases....

Definitely worth the time and effort to get there. Having spark and scala as a general purpose utility language significantly makes my life simpler. Ill be able to provide feedback on how effective spark is for replacing pig hive and sqoop
