Quad Rugby Tournament Photoshoot (Shepherd Center)
Hosted by Decatur Digital Photography Meetup
Details
Shepherd Center is hosting 8-10 regional Quad Rugby teams for 3 days in a smashmouth, no holds barred rugby tourney. All players are paralyzed in some fashion, but use manual wheelchairs for the action. The game is 4 on 4 on a basketball court. The object is to get a volleyball down court and across the goal line intact, while the 4 people on the other team try and stop you. These wheelchairs are not your grandaddy's wheelchairs...they are built specifically for this sport and pack a huge wallop when they hit. The players are big and fast, so it's definitely a challenging subject for photographers.
PARKING: When you turn into The Shepherd Center from Peachtree St, continue forward to the stop sign. There are 2 garages at your disposal. If you go straight into the garage, there is a $1 charge upon exit. If you turn right, and into the "Woodruff" garage, there is no charge. Once in the woodruff garage, note where the elevators are. YOu will need to take the elevators to the 1st floor (not ground) in order to access the walkway to the building.
Our group will shoot on Sunday from 10:30 AM until around 1:45 PM during the final match ups and awards presentations. Jen and Kelvin will be at the security desk a bit before 10:15. Jen will give us a brief explanation of the sport and when to look for the best dramatic shots, as well as a few other instructions.
