We hope members arrive around 18:05-18:20. Please, try to come before the first speaker starts his talk (expected around 18:30). As the intercom bell rings in the same room the speakers give their talks, there could be interruptions.

To get into the building you need to use the intercom (on the right side of the entrance).

There will be around 45 seats, people who can't get a seat will have to be standing :( .

Topic: Can Deep Learning Models Understand the Weather?

Deep learning models are reaching human-level performance or better in pattern recognition and classification applications. This enables artificial intelligent systems to process larger amounts and more diverse data than ever before to better support humans in challenging decision-making processes. The atmosphere or “weather” is probably one of the biggest sources of continuously delivered data and at the same time one of the major influences on human life. In addition, weather data often exhibits the same gridded structure and translational invariance as the image data on which deep learning methods have proven so successful.

Vincent will give a general introduction to deep learning and discuss how deep learning models can be used to interpret and forecast weather data.

2. Mark Hughes (http://researcher.ibm.com/researcher/view.php?person=ie-MHughes3) (Deep Learning Research Scientist at IBM Research, Dublin, Ireland)

Topic: Real-Time face and demographic recognition in the wild using deep convolutional networks

The presentation will cover:

• Introduction to convolutional neural networks

• Applying deep convolutional networks to the problem of large-scale facial recognition

• What's the state of the art in this field- Demographic classification from facial images

• How to fuse deep learning approaches with traditional machine learning approaches
