Across the country, technologists are taking advantage of their skill sets to solve civic problems. Developers, designers and programmers are collaborating with social entrepreneurs and innovators to create tools for sustainable public service, from civic apps to interactive maps.
Their toolboxes consist mainly of open source software and open data. And while the latter of the two is amply provided by the state of Delaware, we have a nearly non-existent civic hacking scene. If we want a truly ethical, transparent and accessible government, we need to take it upon ourselves to push for it. As technologists and entrepreneurs, we have the skill sets to do so.
On Thursday, we'll be hosting our Meetup at 1313 Innovation with guest speaker Dawn McDougall, a co-organizer at Code for Philly. Dawn will tell us how Code for Philly is building a network of civic leaders, organizations and startups to push for a better government and a community of informed citizens.
Come and learn how we can build this community together. We can toss back some beers and toss around some ideas. It's going to be a blast.
Delaware Tech Meetup is a monthly gathering where companies at any stage can demo new ideas, passionate thinkers and doers lead discussions about various technology related topics, and people connect to move ideas forward.
We're always looking for speakers so send us a note if you want a couple of minutes to share what your doing or thinking about.
