First Friday Art Walk: The Golden Triangle

Come on out for a First Friday Art Walk! This is a great event for first timers as well as the old guard.

5:30-7:00 pm: Meet up at THE LIVING ROOM (http://www.coclubs.com/the-living-room/about-the-living-room) (Wine Bar with TAPAS) for spirits, libations, and socializing. Decompress after the long work week. (Parking is difficult: Park on a side street or UBER!)

7:00-9:00 pm: The Art Walk! We have chosen The Golden Triangle District (http://www.colorado.com/articles/denver-neighborhood-profile-golden-triangle-museum-district) for August and we will wander the galleries, checking out the beautiful and the bizarre (just like us!) and sampling free snacks & vino.

Note to all: The CLIFFORD STILL MUSEUM is open and FREE during First Friday until 8 pm: May be an excellent first stop for the group after the Living Room.

This is a fun event! Come one, Come all!

Once a cluster of single-family Victorians and bungalows, the Golden Triangle has transformed into a mixed residential and commercial neighborhood. Just south of downtown, the Golden Triangle is bordered by Speer Boulevard, Colfax Avenue and Lincoln Street. In addition to the arts offerings, the area is also home to the Denver Public Library (http://denverlibrary.org/)'s Michael Graves-designed main branch, the Colorado History Center (http://www.colorado.com/node/3995), Denver Mint (http://www.usmint.gov/mint_tours/?action=startreservation) and the historic Byers-Evans House Museum (http://www.historycolorado.org/museums/byers-evans-house-museum).

The mini-community's hippest attractions, however, are the diverse art galleries, all within walking distance of one another. Here are some of the gallery highlights:

Native American Trading Company (http://www.nativeamericantradingco.com/): Luxurious Southwestern and American Indian art in the form of weavings, chief blankets, pottery, baskets, jewelry and artifacts. 1301 Bannock Street.

The Shops at 9th Avenue (http://www.antiquedesign.com/): This high-end European market offers an eclectic mix of furniture, accessories, art and antiques. Market Treats bistro is perfect for a snack, and The Collection also hosts an on going lecture series. 899 Broadway.

Walker Fine Art (http://www.walkerfineart.com/): Beautiful, contemporary mixed media and sculpture in stone, steel, bronze and glass featuring regional, national and international artists. 300 W. 11th Avenue.

William Havu Gallery (http://www.williamhavugallery.com/): This airy gallery features contemporary art from regional and national artists working in a wide array of media. Top names like Argent, Daborn, Kriegsman, Metier, Steadman and Vonnegut show here. 1040 Cherokee Street.

Paper Clouds Studio (http://www.roxannerossi.com/): Contemporary papermaking and mixed media by Denver artist Roxanne Rossi and other featured artists. 136 W. 12th Avenue.

Gallery Roach (http://www.roachphotos.com/gallery.html): This photo lab/fine-art gallery exhibits photos of Denver taken since 1932, emphasizing fiber-based silver gelatin prints. 806 Broadway.
