DBL member, Jamison Griffith, will give a lecture that delves into a molecular biology technique called “somatic cell nuclear transfer” (SCNT). Despite the intimidating name, the concept behind it is relatively simple and the effects are extraordinary. The technique was most notably used in 1996 to clone the first mammal, Dolly the sheep, but it also has possible therapeutic uses such as personalized stem-cell generation. Along with learning the applications of the technique, we will also touch on the history and bioethics of using SCNT, as well as brief (and painless) cell biology.

Jamison is a junior at UCD studying biology and philosophy with an emphasis in molecular biology. When he's not working on his science hustle, he's either cooking, making music, or skiing.
