POTLUCK POST RIDE TONITE 5:45-Jenn's Friendly Tues. Deer Creek Hill Ride
Hosted by Denver & Front Range Cycling™ (DFC)
Details
Hi all-(and for tonite's ride, as well as once a month going forward, we will start a very casual, post ride potluck. The intent to have a very simple to organize (as the organizer, I get to dictate this...lol) post ride potluck social, in which, any and all riders and non riders/spouses, can partake. It will be immediately following the ride and will be held at our cars in a very informal, bring camp chairs (or not) setting. Please post in your rsvp what food or drink you will be bringing (just so we don't end up with 25 different brownie dishes...not that that would be a bad thing;). Feel free to bring anything easy/store bought/home made/ a portable grill....whatever...the point is not to have a gourmet dinner, but to have social time while not starving in the process:) Certainly is fine to take ownership for whatever you would like to bring and don't need to "ask Jenn" for permission....we will all be happy with whatever, I am sure!
Time to start our friendly standard after work Tuesday rides meeting at 5:35 with 5:45 pm departure up Deer Creek canyon (meet at Wadsworth and Deer Creek...gather at the fourth road sign on Deer Creek on the right hand side)
The ride is an 18 mile climbing road ride (total approx distatnce...ie, 9 miles out and 9 miles back) in an Out and Back format- (if you are familiar with Deer Creek, we will be going up Deer Creek and NOT turning on High Grade for these rides).
This is a gradual hill climb that anyone can do if they do it at their own speed. You cannot get lost or "dropped" on this ride as I expect everyone to ride at their own level on a hill climb...faster riders can ride ahead and circle back which allows for "no pressure" on anyone who doesn't climb as fast (you know you will see everyone again because everyone will have to turn around and ride back the same way to the starting point!)
Friendly ride that if done weekly, you will be able to see your improvements with climbing (if you choose to time yourself)...Most folks will be able to complete the hill climb in an hour or less-we will regroup in several places, including the "top" of the climb. Plan on being "out" on your bike for 90 minutes-give or take...
Also, I have now started a "Challenge Series" within the same ride-this challenge series is geared to those individuals who want to challenge themselves with "how many miles can I ride by circling back to others who are still climbing up the hill before the last person reaches the top of Deer Creek?"
All that the Challenge Series offers is a simple way to encourage some friendly competition with those faster folks who would like to participate-at the end of the ride, you can post on the webpage the total number of miles that your computer said (and, we will know if you are fluffing the numbers, because if we didn't see you circle back and reride the hill....well....we will know!) And, hopefully, the Challenge will allow more interaction between the folks who ride faster and the folks who ride slower...you should see each other a bit more!
Weather changes very quickly in Colorado-make sure to have warm gloves and a jacket for the ride back down! As we always seem to gather around the cars after the ride and talk, we may as well (for those folks that are interested) start to bring camp/lawn chairs and some beverage to imbibe and make it a bit of a post ride casual social!
Hope to see folks!
Jenn
