What are Skeptics and what does one do at a Skeptics' Meet-Up? Is it, as a friend put it, a bunch of people looking at each other suspiciously with one eyebrow raised, thinking, "I'm not too sure about you.?"

Ask the members of the forum what a Skeptic is, and you may hear a slightly different answer from each person. Among us, you will find people who love the hard sciences, psychology, philosophy, politics, current events, history, the list goes on. The common denominator? We enjoy discussing (ok, debating) issues surrounding these topics and others. As skeptics, we understand we need to back up assertions with more than feelings and beliefs, with reason and good evidence from reputable sources. Oh yeah, a sense of humor really helps.

November's Book will be The Men who Stare at Goats by Jon Ronin in honor of the film that opens on November 7.

Jon Ronson has taken a skeptical look at one of the more interesting efforts of the U.S. Military.

Here is what Publishers Weekly Says about the book
This exploration of the U.S. military's flirtation with the supernatural is at once funny and tragic. Read more

What members are saying

It is a great place to meet people that are not worried about perceptions. We let the evidence do the talking.

“I was friends with a good chunk of the Atlanta skeptic crowd while living back there for a couple of years. Met Reed at TAM7 and D*C in Atlanta, and figured I'd see how this crowd is, now that I'm back in the area.”
