Summer of Design offers participants a facilitated, team-based design thinking experience for local impact. DT:DC’s Summer of Design is a series of events where DT:DC members use design thinking to address real problems faced by our real world partner organization.

This multi-week team-based design challenge includes weekly workshops, an online community for learning and engagement, design thinking mentors, and a Statement of Accomplishment from the University of Virginia Darden School Foundation.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

Schedule & Time Commitment: Participants are required to attend at least 7 of 8 scheduled events. Plan for time outside of the Wednesday events to work with your team members and mentors on the SoD Challenge.

• Wednesday, June 10th - Kickoff Meeting & Designing for the Greater Good by Jeanne Liedtka (SoD participants do NOT need to RSVP to the Liedtka meetup event)

• Monday, June 15th - SoD Participants Happy Hour (attendance strongly recommended; location TBD)

• Wednesday, June 17th - Stakeholder Interview Session

• Wednesday, June 24th - Design Brief & Gallery Walk

• Wednesday, July 1st - Brainstorming & Concept Development

• Wednesday, July 8th - Napkin Pitches & Assumption Testing

• Wednesday, July 15th - Prototyping & Co-Creation

• Wednesday, July 22nd - Learning Launch & Presentation 101

• Wednesday, July 29th - Pitch Sessions to PBS

Location: All events (except the June 15th Happy Hour) will be at PBS in Crystal City on Wednesdays from 6:30pm until 9pm.

Scholarship:

Refunds:
The cost for the Summer of Design covers all workshops, materials, and fees. Refunds are available until 1 week before the first event. After that, there will be no refunds.
