Are you curious to see how our Summer of Designers are helping to improve the lives of local DC citizens? Join us to celebrate their ingenuity and hard work on Wednesday, August 3, 2016, when nine Summer of Design teams will pitch their final solutions to a panel of judges.
2016 Summer of Design collaborated with an all-star line-up of community
partners including leading academic institutions, creative catalysts, government agencies and local businesses for our 2016 challenge. This year’s design challenge includes weekly video workshops provided by the University of Virginia Darden School Foundation curated by Jeanne Liedtka, co-author of Designing for Growth, and professor of Business Administration at the Darden School of Business; an online community for learning and engagement powered by Darden NovoEd; design thinking mentors from DT:DC; expert conversations with faculty from the George Washington Milken Institute School of Public Health at The George Washington University and The School of Business at The George Washington University; technology expertise from Applied Information Sciences; U.S. government mentorship as part of the Road to the Global Entrepreneurship Summit and Statements of Accomplishment from the University of Virginia Darden School Foundation and XD@GW.
This year’s challenge...How might we improve the health of Ward 7 & 8 citizens through entrepreneurship and leverage public-private partnerships in innovative ways? offered participants from multiple disciplines an opportunity to come together to consider a new approach to community engagement and establishing a vision for a healthier population. Participants will present their innovative ideas “shark-tank” style to a panel of Judges on August 3, 2016.
The heart of Summer of Design is what the teams have learned. Sometimes the failures or challenges we face along the journey provide just as much learning, if not more, than our successes. These teams have had both as they have generated ideas, built concepts, surfaced key assumptions and validated their prototypes with stakeholders. Regardless of whether a Team wins the overall design challenge, we are coming together on August 3rd to celebrate as a community all of the learning, networking, and problem solving we have experienced this summer.

The Wait List Process: The Meetup.com Wait List function works on a first come first served basis. This means that when a seat opens up, the people on the Wait List will get an email notifying them that a space is available. The first person to log in to Meetup and claim the seat will get the space. When spaces become available, they are usually claimed within 1-5 minutes so you must act quickly.
