The Printing Museum - Our beloved local Printing Museum has the largest and most comprehensive collection of working letterpress printing machinery & equipment in Australasia. Not only that but it is the only physical type foundry in Australasia and is run by the most freshly passionate and knowledgeable people that you'll ever be lucky enough to meet.

. . . .

Typeface - An independent documentary film about visual culture, technology and graphic design, centred around the Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. Typeface the film focuses on a rural Midwestern museum and print shop where international artists meet retired craftsmen and together navigate the convergence of modern design and traditional technique. A 63min film by Justine Nagan.

Making Faces - In 2008, P22 type foundry commissioned Jim Rimmer [masked]) to create a new type design (Stern) that became the first-ever simultaneous release of a digital font and hand-set metal font. Jim was one of only a few who possessed the skills needed to create a metal font. This film is a unique opportunity to share Jim's knowledge, processes and passions with the world. A 43min film by Richard Kegler.

I loved the first movie, even if it did end with some uncertainty... I'm looking forward to Wellington's new Printing Museum. I just wish I could have stayed for the second film... sounds like it was more upbeat.

Great screening! It was fantastic having The Printing Museum there bringing the experience closer to home. Wish I could have stayed for the last bit!

Awesome evening, thank you. Really interesting movies (I learned heaps and am wondering if I could have a go at typesetting!) and was completely stoked to be given the ampersand from the Printing Museum. If money was no object, I would propose a meetup in Two Rivers Wisconsin...

Loved it. All inspirational, great people, and it was good to sign up as a Printing Museum member ... keen to help out with that stuff.

Just purchased my ticket, do I need to print it out or can I just show it on my phone? It is an E-ticket after all.

    July 25, 2013

    • Dave K.

Heya Greg. Glad you're keen! Showing your ticket on your phone will be fine, we'll just be checking and ticking off names as people come in. See you Monday :)

In terms of related local interest, we have a Printing Museum in the Wellington region too. It's called 'The Printing Museum' and the website is at http://www.theprintingmuseum.org.nz. Cunning, eh!

Tempting update for you... there may well be a Print Museum display at this event, with examples of newly cast monotype, prints and possibly even some souvenirs. Very nice indeed! As ever, please spread word about the event. If we get good ticket sales before this weekend I'll prod the venue to get us a larger screen.

Is there a link for buying tickets or is this one a freebie?

    June 25, 2013

    • Dave K.

Heya Robyn. No link for tickets yet, as I'm still waiting on confirmation from US distributors. Hopefully soon.

Dave i think that's a great idea !! I'm sad re objectified so am definitely interested in a mini screening :)

FYI: For this event I'm thinking we could sneak in a double bill ... Following the 63min Typeface documentary (which focuses on a wood type & printing museum) we could show the really charming 45min documentary Making Faces (which focuses on cutting metal type).

    What do you think?

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
