We have partnered with Encore Détroit to throw a cross-border party to celebrate the heritage of the French Detroit River Region with a history lecture, live music, traditional dinner, a tour of Ste. Anne's Church and a cash bar.
Proceeds will benefit Alliance Française and the restoration funds of our region's two historic French historic and First Nation churches: Sainte Anne de Détroit and Our Lady of Assumption Church in Windsor.
Ste. Anne's parish was founded in 1701. The current church building was built in 1886 and is the final resting place of Detroit's great civic leader Gabriel Richard. Ste. Anne's is the oldest institution in the USA west of the Allegheny Mountains, the second oldest Catholic parish in the USA and the only Detroit institution that has operated continuously since the city's founding 314 years ago.
The community that became l'Eglise de l'Assomption Church in Windsor started in 1728 as a mission to the native Hurons and the land for the current church was donated by the them. Assumption also ministered to the French-Canadians who settled the area. It became the center of life in Sandwich, the first permanent European settlement in Canada west of Montreal. The current (shuttered) building dates to the 1830s and is the focus of a major effort to save one of the oldest buildings in the Detroit River Region.
La Chorale du Tricentainnaire de Windsor is a French language choral group started in 2001 to celebrate 300 years of life along the strait.
Encore Détroit is an activity of the Alliance Française de Détroit/Institut de Michigan.
La Place Concorde is the French Canadian cultural center in Windsor, led by Belgian chef, Didier Marotte.
Tickets are $25 per person (please pay in advance online).
Proceeds will benefit the restoration funds of Ste. Anne's Church in Detroit, Assumption Church in Windsor and Alliance Française.
