Goodbye and Thank You

Dear Meetup Group:

Tomorrow is my flight to Thailand. The big news, received during my last week in Detroit, is that GM Thailand offered me a job. I accepted, and now I will continue being an engineer. It makes this move much less risky for me, and I am very excited about the new opportunity. The downside is that my new job is a couple of hours from Bangkok, where my girlfriend lives.

I wanted to share that news with you, but the real reason for emailing is to say good bye and thank you. Being an organizer in this meetup group was an excellent experience for me. I moved to Detroit from out of state 2 years ago, and I saw making friends as the biggest challenge in the move. This group really fulfilled that need.

I am very proud of how much the group grew during my tenure as the ass. organizer. I like to think that I played a small part in that growth, but I think it had more to do the diverse, friendly, interesting mix of people we had. You guys made me (and everyone else that showed up) feel so welcome, and I am glad to have known you all.

Several of you have mentioned that you would like to stay in touch after I move to Thailand. You can do that by simply replying to this email. I would love to hear from you, and I am pretty good about keeping in touch. Furthermore, you now know someone in the far east, and you have an open invitation to come visit me any time. I will do my best to show you a good time.

So again, thank you for making my time as the assistant organizer so rewarding. I hope to see everyone again in the future.

Your fearless ass. leader,
