Chris Bowen: An Introduction to Windows 8

Chris Bowen from Microsoft will be joining us to discuss developing software for Windows 8.

"An Introduction to Windows 8"

Windows 8 is Windows reimagined, and this talk will help you learn more by introducing the platform and the developer opportunity.  We’ll take a look at the platform design tenets, the programming language choices, and the integration points with the OS and across Metro style apps.  And of course we’ll dive into some code and see what’s new with developer tools to help you create Metro style apps.

Chris Bowen ( is a Principal Developer Evangelist with Microsoft, specializing in web and client development technologies and working with companies and developers in the northeastern US.  An architect and developer with over 18 years in the industry, he joined Microsoft after holding senior technical positions at companies including, VistaPrint, and Staples.  He is coauthor of two books (with Addison-Wesley and WROX) and holds an M.S. in Computer Science and a B.S. in Management Information Systems, both from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Chris was a knowledgeable and affable speaker. He provided an overview of Windows 8 which while a little fluffy was a good introduction to the system for any developer out looking to build apps for METRO

Seemed mole like a recap of what was discussed at the developer release of windows 8 in 2011 with an emphasis on visual studio and blend. Wanted more

Getting a chance to see a MS Windows tablet was very cool...Chris was a good presenter - even trying to lighten the mood for those eager to flog him

    Hi Arpit,

While I may have slightly more time at this meeting than at Code Camp, both will be developer-focused introductions to Windows 8, covering much of the same ground.

Will this be the same session as covered in Code Camp on March 31?
