NYC Dev Meet Up - Fun in the Concrete Jungle

This is our chance to meet other geo-developers in the area, find out what they're doing, share what you're doing and get to talk some geodev and some Esri with other geonerds.

Here's the high-level agenda, to be updated as we get closer to the date.

5:00 - 5:45 PM Registration and Social

6:00 - 6:30 PM Peter Carlo: "NYC Department of Parks - A mobile computing agency"

6:30 - 7:30 PM Lightning talks*:

  • Dorothy Nash: "The many geo-worlds in NYC"
  • Daniel Sheehan: "Beginning Geoprocessing with ArcPy: Neighborhood Measures for Epidemiology"
  • Holly Orr: "Spatial Data Collection on Mobile Devices:  An Open Source and ESRI Solution"
  • Jesse Tayler: "Building Planaby: Picking the right geoservices for your iOS app"
  • Skye Book: "Visualizing Geospatial Data Using Real-Time 3D Technologies"

7:30 - 8:30 PM Raffle, Networking and Social. Two great prizes:

  • 12-month EDN Subscription
  • DevSummit Registration

* Learn more about lightning talks here. They're quick (<10 minutes), informal, and fun. If you're coming to this meetup, why not suggest a talk you'd like to give? The more, the merrier!

I am grateful for the opportunity and actually made two important new contacts in addition to reviving a few old ones. The presentations were a mixed bag; ironically it was the one that had least to do with Arc-whatever that piqued my interest: the reverse geocoding and natural language processing capabilities of iOS-5.

I don't know what individual circumstances are, but certainly the people and content of this event would also be welcome at NEArc.

Yes, I'll be in Saratoga Springs. Hope to also make the Boston Dev Meetup.

Hey Andy. Thanks for the heads up.

We were aware of it but after talking with some of folks in NYC we decided there'd be little if any overlap. Are you heading up there?

    Hi, Amy,

Are you aware that this conflicts with the Northeast Arc Users Group meeting in Saratoga Springs, November 13 - 16?
