Details

We are happy to announce two speakers for the next Meetup. We will be joined by Philipp Krenn and Alex Rukletsov who will let us dive deeper into the Elastic Stack and Mesosphere.

tl;dr: Build large datacenter application while remaining an overview.

Thanks to Stephan Hochdörfer and bitExpert AG for hosting the event!

# Going Elastic

One of the hottest and most widely used tools for log monitoring and analytics at the moment is the Elastic Stack:

• Elasticsearch doing the hard work of analyzing and searching large amounts of data.

• Logstash and Beats for collecting them.

• Kibana for powerful visualizations.

This talk gives you an overview of the four technologies, how they are working together, and how they can solve your problems.

Philipp (@xeraa) is a Developer Advocate at Elastic, spreading the love and knowledge of full-text search, analytics, and real-time data. He is a frequent speaker at conferences and meetups about all things search & analytics, databases, cloud computing, and devops. Philipp lives in Vienna where he enjoys experimenting with software, organizing meetups, and sports.

# Scheduling techniques with Mesos and wDRF

Operating apps at scale is the new normal, but is still out of reach for most companies. Modern cluster management systems enable mid-size and non-IT businesses to run their clusters in a similar way Google does. Efficient scheduling of heterogenous workloads can significantly cut costs and reduce efforts required to maintain and run server infrastructure. During the talk, Alex will give a technical overview of the scheduling part of Mesos, demo of some of its capabilities (including experimental), and touch other cluster management systems.

Alex Rukletsov is on the Mesosphere core team in Hamburg and focuses on open source Apache Mesos. During the past years Alex was segmenting medical images and investigating behaviour of human vessels in several German research institutes. His areas of interests include distributed systems, object recognition, probabilistic and heuristic algorithms.
