Wearable tech!

Back to school is better than ever with Arduino Woman’s workshop in Wearable Technology.   Did you know you could sew LEDs with conductive thread?  Make a brighter statement this year on the first day of school with a LED patch for your backpack, shirt, or hat.  Bring your own garment or accessory to add lights or make something from fabric provided.  Arduino Woman will bring all other materials and tools necessary for us to 1) Design, 2) Prototype, and 3) Make! (sew!)

We look forward to seeing you, join us, be ahead of the curve of the maker movement by jumping into wearable technology possibilities with Tenaya Hurst, a local Arduino maker.  She will bring a mini-maker faire with her for this special, end of summer workshop with Devoxx4Kids.

This is  our next workshop in the series on Internet of Things (IOT). Thank you for your support and participation!

Recommended Age: 7-14 years

To participate in the workshop each participant will need a wearable kit. The kit can be purchased from Arduino Woman for $15 prior to the workshop by paying in cash/Paypal/check. The kit will contain a Lilypad battery holder, batteries, 5 LEDs from 6 color choices, 1 bobbin of conductive thread, safety pins, needles, and a needle threader. Participant will take the kit home.

I love the Devoxx events but I'm in the East Bay. I was inspired, so I'm starting an East Bay kids school for coding opening soon called
Thank you to Arun for inspiring me. He is an amazing teacher.

Looking forward to meeting all of you on Sunday! Try to be prompt so we have the full 2 hours to work together :) I will bring all necessary materials, but if you want to try sewing your LEDs directly into a piece of clothing or an accessory you own, feel free to bring that. Decide at the workshop if you'd prefer to practice on my scrap fabric or sew boldly into your shirt! Because materials are washable!! (without the battery, and recommended cool setting in the dryer or line dry)

Thanks everyone! On Sunday, I can accept cash, check, paypal app, and maybe my square if we can get that working....yes, even this tech girl needs some tech help! Sewing wearables, I've got that down ;-) and you will too after an awesome Sunday workshop with Arduino Woman.

This sounds good. Can I just include $15. in my payment for the Wearable Art Kit?

Thank you Laurel and Arun, yes, we will get everyone set up with a kit or kits right at the beginning of class, give a brief intro with the main tips for success with this activity and then we'll make!

I'm registered for 1 child but I would also like to bring my other as well. Do I have to cancel my original reservation to make a new one with 2 or can you just +1'me somewhere and I'll pay extra at the door?

Yes, arrange for the workshop per participant, and on the day, as many kits as you'd need, depending if you want your own to do at home later after helping your little ones during the workshop :)

Hi Devoxx4Kids! I am thrilled to offer this special wearable technology workshop on Sunday August 24th in the morning 10am-12pm! Thank you for RSVPing and start thinking about something you'd like to add lights to. I will also bring fabric and all other sewing supplies needed. No sewing experience required, but good if you've done some hand sewing :) Thank you to the organizers of Devoxx4Kids for hosting this special event.
