My husband is balder now, thanks to my love of classic fiction and my inability to keep quiet about it. In an effort to maintain marital peace (and perhaps to keep a few threads of hair attached to his poor head), I decided to start a women's book discussion group centered on classic novels.
The purpose of the group is to dive into the worlds created by some of history's most famous authors: Steinbeck, Twain, Austin, Dostoevsky, and, of course, Dickens, just to name a few. If you also enjoy reading classic fiction but have found no one with whom to share this passion, please join me to discuss classic literature.
This is not a group of snobs, in fact, pettiness and cattiness is best left outside. This is a group of ladies who get lost in past worlds and enjoy meeting each other there. It is a place where it is okay to be smart yet still learn from each other and some of the most creative people who ever lived.
Dickens Chicks meets at a location in Gilbert on the last Sunday of each month.
If you're in the North Valley and driving to the East Valley is too far, you may be interested in the North Valley Women's Classic Book Club which meets in Anthem and was started by one of our former members, Colleen Hickman.
