A digital conversation about building the next generation of the web.

Details

Change is afoot! Every digital discipline from technical architecture and programming to interface design and customer experience is experiencing a rapid evolution. Tools and techniques we've grown accustomed to are being challenged by new ideas and approaches that are better suited to new contexts brought about by emerging advances like the Internet of Things, cloud based services and big data.

The digital industry took several years to fully get to grips with mobile and even now many organisations have yet to successfully adapt their strategies to the multi-channel web. This next evolution of the web promises to be even more profound but are we prepared to be more agile this time around? We think it's time to have a digital conversation about the next generation of the web, what it looks like, what are the emergent trends and how should we, as developers, designers, strategists, marketers and digital managers respond?

Confirmed guest speakers:

Amir Chaudhry (http://amirchaudhry.com/) is a Post Doc at Cambridge Computer Labs who is working with Ocaml Labs (http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/projects/ocamllabs/), a team working on the development of the 'industrial strength' open source OCaml programming language (http://ocaml.org/). He is also part of a team at Nymote.org who are exploring cloud based software that provides us with greater personal control of our digital lives. Nymote (http://nymote.org/) have developed mechanisms to provide identity and connectivity for your personal cloud of devices as well as the mechanisms to keep data in sync across them. Previously Amir was co-founder of Springboard (http://springboard.com/) a tech incubator.

Becky Stewart (http://codasign.com/about-us/) is co-founder of Codasign who teach kids, artists, and designers how to be creative with technology.
Becky is an electrical engineer, software developer, and co-founder of Codasign. She is an engineer and developer working with physical computing. Before completing her PhD in acoustics, spatial audio and interfaces for music search with the Centre for Digital Music (http://c4dm.eecs.qmul.ac.uk/) at Queen Mary, University of London, she completed an MSc in music technology at the University of York and a BMus in music engineering technology and computer science at the University of Miami. She works on creative technology projects for clients through Anti-Alias Labs (http://antialiaslabs.com/) and her personal blog (http://blog.theleadingzero.com/) documents her projects.

Adam Sefton (https://twitter.com/AdamSefton) is Global Executive Creative Director at Reading Room (http://www.readingroom.com/). He's been working in digital on a variety of levels for over 10 years, the last 6 in senior agency positions. He is excitable, energetic and enthusiastic about the internet, how people like to use it and what might happen to it in the future. He is returning to discuss how the emergent principles and technologies underlying the next iteration of the web should influence organisations digital strategies. What are the challenges and opportunities facing digital decision makers.

Adam, Amir and Becky will be joined on stage by regular host Simon Nash (https://twitter.com/simonnash) and our Creative Technologists in residence Patu Tifinger (http://www.patuart.com/) & Andrew Larking (http://www.andrewlarking.co.uk/) who will be talking about several live projects that are putting the principles behind the next iteration of the web into practice.

We hope you can join us for what should be a fascinating evening at The Phoenix on Weds June 11th.
