Maple Syrup Sugar Shack Brunch - Cabane à sucre - Revised menu
Details
I have been assured that this years menu has been revised, and is not the Ikea cafeteria style food of last year that is being cooked by volunteers under new management.
Vanier’s Sugar Shack is one of Ottawa’s best kept secrets. It is touted as the only urban maple sugar shack in all of North America. Vanier traces its history of maple-syrup making all the way back to 1939, when the Père Blanc Missionaries began the process of tapping trees and collecting the sap to create the sweet treat. The city now celebrates this heritage with the annual Festival des Sucres which draws thousands of people to the sugar bush to enjoy maple-flavoured delicacies. Located on the site of the original sugar shack, the Festival des Sucres continues the tapping tradition, producing up to 400 litres of syrup. Please note - the food is not free even though we are not charging to RSVP.
