This group is a gourmet dinner party with up to 12 people and after dinner we go into the art studio and I teach French Impressionist oil painting. Wine, dinner, materials and instruction all provided for $50 per night, which covers expenses. We meet typically on Monday nights, but sometimes on a Wednesday. It's a great way to make new friends and learn how to create a wonderful piece of art. Participants are typically beginners, although a few intermediates and advanced are in the class. I play classic rock and roll music that is great for painting. It's a very young, fun atmosphere. The dinner party conversations are dynamic and sometimes a few people don't even leave the table to paint, they stay, chat and drink a little wine! Arrival time is 6:30 and we start with beverages, it's typically wine that we taste and share, then we have a gourmet salad followed by a second course entree. About 7:30 we move into the adjacent art studio and I teach everything about oil painting - from picking out your subject from tons of books of French Impressionists I have here, or photos of Santa Barbara ocean scenes, then we wash our canvas - I teach you how - then off to sketching our composition, then to the painting. I teach you how to use all the professional oil painting materials, handling, brushwork, cleanup etc. After we paint, about 9 ish, we go back to the dining room for a homemade dessert. Class is over typically from 9 - 10 pm or whenever you need to go. You don't need to bring anything at all to the dinner party class. Wear clothes that are OK to paint in, but typically you don't get any paint or stains on your clothes. The location is off of Las Positas towards the beach, I'll give you directions when you RSVP. I need solid RSVP's ahead of time. If you join, I then put you onto the main roster on my regular email and you get the class notices and requests for your RSVP. There are over 60 students that have completed paintings in this class and people come and go as their schedule permits. My personal website has a ton of pictures from the class and gives a good picture of what this class is all about. It's Rebecca Brand dot net... It's a very fun social group with a purpose!

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
