What is your preferred programming language? (Not that it matters very much. We are just curious.)

I know C++ extremely well, however I do not get to use C++11 -- we have to port to many platforms, so we are restricted to C++03.

What is your earliest memorable programming experience?

My first programming job was a summer job programming video games in assembly in 1980. That was also when I first learned emacs. My first programming was on a friends' HP calculator in 1977. First real programming was Basic on an IBM 370 in 1978 (not Virtual Basic, real Basic, no if-then-else, everything was with gotos). Then, within a few months, I learned Fortran (Fortran IV G, still all gotos), then PL/I.

Hi, I'm a C++ programmer for Wall St. I was born in Michigan, grew up in Germany and Australia, college in California, most of my career in Silicon Valley. At one point I spent a year in the Philippines teaching programming at a university.
