Did all of your voted candidates win or loose? Well, not all of mine came out on top, but I was one of three votes for our November book selection; The Story of Edgar Sawtelle. It's a meaty read, so snag a copy quickly and let's get started!
Thanks to all the ladies who attended the meet up last night at Lure Bistro. I'm also super impressed by our depth of conversation with regards to Outliers. We had several members with similar personal life story experiences and others who easily related to what he defined 'success'. Secondly, most of us agreed that Gladwell's sampling size was really too small if he was trying to prove a thesis or make a final judgment on a scientific level. We also felt the 2nd part of the book was much more interesting and intriguing than the first. So for all of you that didn't get to finish or haven't had a chance to pick this one up, you may want to skim through to Part II.
Last night, I also took an attendee poll by asking if members like the monthly 'polls' and if you like having only one book picked per meet up. And so far, we all agreed that the polls are fun and helpful when scheduling the meet ups and one book at a time is fine. If we find ourselves too bored with one book or it's a shorter read, we can surely tackle a 2nd one. But...that makes the discussion time 2x as long too! Anyway, we'll keep the format the way it is for now and maybe take a fresh look at our book club operations for 2011.
Without further ado, I welcome November to a new selection that will require more of your reading time than previous books. At 566 pages, we will plan on a meet up after the Thanksgiving break. There are ample copies in the Cleveland Network, at Mentor and Morley. You may need to reserve a copy at the smaller branches, but CLE has a ton on the shelves.
Girls only! This book club was founded over 5 years ago at a local publishing company between a few editors and ad sales reps. These gals wanted to share their thoughts and feelings about a recent books or articles, add it a little friendly gossip and enjoy local meeting spots; such as a wine bar, coffee shop or new pub/restaurant. After a few career changes, relocation's and the beginnings of new families, we broadened our wings and started a Meet Up group to attract new members.
Current book selections are featured on the home page, however, you can also find them by going to the 'More' tab and then 'Files'. Download the book club list and descriptions for current, past and all future selections. At each meet up, the attending group votes on a book for the next month.
Polls are one of the key features to organizing each meet up location and destination. Keep coming back to the site to vote!
Check out our calendar and message board. Local book sales, events, and tips are regularly posted.
