Welcome to clear skies and the Indian Summer; FINALLY. Thank goodness we are over with the week of doom and gloom...blah....terrible weather for the harvest season of apples and grapes.
What a wonderful meet up this week! We had 10 total attendees with 2 new members, a very active and engaging book discussion and of course, lots of fun. I've attached our discussion questions for anyone interested. Overall, the group finishing the book did 'like' it, however, we agreed it could have been 100 - 200 pages shorter and some of the characters were pointless to the overall novel. It's it odd that an author will introduce and interact a few characters and then never really add them into the overall story? Strange.... I personally enjoyed the story nonetheless.
On to something new - Freedom by Jonathan Franzen has been selected at random for October. As of this morning, there was one copy available at Morley, 210 copies in the Cleveland Network, and free digital copies from the Cleveland Digital Library, which is also now supporting Kindles.
Since this is a meaty read, so you'd best get started soon!
Keep your eyes peeled for a Meet Up movie night at my place. We'll be watching The Soloist, which we read early this summer.
Finally, I still have one ticket available for Michael Pollan on 10/24. If you'd like to go, I'm picking up dinner with a gift certificate and will be happy to drive. The Pollan event is $30, and I have center stage Mezzanine level seats. Email me if you are interested.
